Fake letters have been sent to Congressional members urging them to not support the Climate Change bill by a lobbying firm linked to a coal group, according to reports in the New York Times and the Washington Post. The letters were from groups claiming to be non-profits that were against the climate change bill.
The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) had hired a public relations firm which in turn hired a lobbying firm, Bonner & Associates, which had sent the letters. ACCCE is now also thinking of taking legal action against Bonner & Associates, which has since fired the person who sent the letters.
As a result, the Sierra Club is now asking the Justice Department to investigate and bring charges against the lobbying firm for fraud and the sponsor of the climate bill in the House, Rep. Edward Markey, is now looking into whether this incident was truly a fraud on Congress.
